The Cargo and Commercial Vans/Trucks guidelines are designed to be used in conjunction with the ACRISS Car Classification Matrix to help book vans/trucks through all forms of electronic distribution systems. ACRISS does not code Cargo and Commercial Vans/Trucks (in the same way as it does for cars) but published these guidelines for use by car rental companies and travel technology companies by providing the information needed to book with confidence.

ACRISS worked with its car rental members on these guidelines to replace the previous out of date guidelines using capacity in tonnes (see bottom of page) with cubic meter capacity and additional features instead, ensuring it covered all commercial vans and trucks bookeable online and not requiring a special HGV licence. The new guidelines are more in line with current booking information for commercial vans and trucks used by our members.

Cargo and Commercial Vans/Trucks are coded using the 2nd character of ‘K’ from the Car Classification Matrix. Cargo and Commercial vans/trucks are classified based on capactity in cubic metres, lifting platform and/or additional features as per the table below.  Please refer to individual car & van rental companies' own websites or policy pages for more information.

The new guidelines will continue to follow the Car Classification Matrix coding for the 3rd character (Transmission/Drive) and 4th character (Fuel type/AC).  Only the two first letters/characters are different and follow the below classification.
